Sasheer Zamata is an African American Z-lister whose talents earned her the opportunity to join Saturday Night Live. Sasheer is not only the first black female castmember to be listed on the show's roster in 6 years, she's also dark skinned and has a natural, very curly, afro!
She graduated from the University of Virginia just a few years ago! She has done a lot of work with the Upright Citizens Brigade but has been unknown this entire time. She appeared on "Inside Amy Schumer" last season and has only worked on indie projects, but don't quote me on that. I just don't recognize her work.
Well, I'm proud of SNL choosing someone who doesn't look like Beyoncé or Rihanna, who isn't mixed and doesn't have fair skin. I hope they do great things with Sasheer, but I'd also like to see a light skinned black woman who can play roles "like Beyoncé or Rihanna." Get on it! And congrats to Ms. Zamata! I bet her ex-boyfriends are blowing up her phone right about now.
Deadline reports that Sasheer's debut episode on Saturday Night Live will be on January 18. Producers chose Zamata after she attended a Dec. 16 callback, along with 11 other candidates. She graduated from the University of Virginia just a few years ago!
