Raised by two Cuban parents, the bilingual celebrity blogger's father died when he was only 11 years old. Mario earned a BFA in Drama from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and later worked for GLAAD and wrote content for gay magazines. Most notably, Perez was the managing editor of Instinct magazine, a gay publication.
Perez moved to LA and launched his website, under the title page666, in 2004. The New York Post sued Perez over his blog title, which launched him into the celebrity gossip stratosphere. He was officially on the map and his site's traffic began to climb.
Many celebrities despise Hilton and the gay community loathes him, allegedly. He used to out gay celebs and he called Will.i.am a faggot, which got him punched in the face. The controversial attention whore has moved to New York to have sex, essentially. Perez said that he moved to the East Coast for dating. Clearly, Perez is living right where he's supposed to be. He attends a play or concert every single night - and most people know Perez lives for good music and strong performances.
Say whatever you'd like about Perez, but he has put many musicians and celebrities on the map and he has helped the world to understand that bloggers aren't boring and the profession can be lucrative and deserves to be respected. Many bloggers want to be famous, but there will only be one Perez Hilton, the man who inspired many to pursue their dreams and begin a website of their own.
